Number 5 in our list of marketing to schools shocks for 2014 is the real joker in the pack! Well, there had to be one; at Sprint we’re always looking to shake things up a bit and throw some leftfield ideas into the melting pot!

So sit down, brace yourself, and make sure you have a glass of water to hand; here’s the most shocking shock so far!

Shocking Secret #5: Emailing in the afternoon – it works!

Sending your email in the afternoon goes against every marketing to schools textbook that’s ever been written. However the continuing rise in emails being opened on mobile devices means that sending after 3pm might actually help your email dodge the morning inbox logjam.

A recent email we broadcast to schools at 4pm actually saw an open rate 9% higher than the education sector average.

What’s more, the email received a fantastic click-through rate of 3.2%; could it be that teachers reading your email after their last class, on the bus home from work, or sat at home relaxing on their couch have more time to explore your email in greater depth?

This is certainly something to keep an eye on as we move through 2014. You can be sure that we’ll be doing just that at Sprint, but why not try some of your own A/B testing and see what works for you?
